“When I put on my uniform, I feel I am the proudest man on Earth.”

There are great ballplayers, and then there’s Roberto Clemente, one of the most iconic baseball players of all time. The numbers speak for themselves over his 18-year career with the storied Pittsburgh Pirates.

Start with 3,000 overall hits, one of only two Pirates in Club history to ever hit the mark. A career .317 batting average. A grand total of 1,305 RBI. Two World Series titles, one in 1960, and again 1971 when he took home the World Series MVP.

The hits keep coming. A dozen Gold Gloves, 15 total MLB All-Star Game selections, and the NL MVP in 1966. When Clemente showed up at Forbes Field – and later Three Rivers Stadium – the city became electric.

Clemente is Baseball. Baseball is Clemente.
